Embrace
Embrace, Oil and medium on canvas, a work in progress
Long intrigued and enchanted by languages that use pictograms, ideographs, characters and symbols. The inspiration for Embrace is the Mandarin pictogram for Love. I felt something moving in this symbol and wanted this pair to reflect the complex and simple aspects that for me are essential to love; the essential equality of compassion and passion; empathy and emotion; mind and matter; simplicity and complexity; fire and water.
33-years ago I danced with the Arcing Angles of Death and Music and Love fused into a universal language, its Pattern transcending both noun and verb. To feel it is to know its truth for the first place it leads to is self-understanding. When we accept and honour our goddessential —god, goddess and essential— nature, the breath of life revives the heart in a way that lifts and shifts our attitudes and gives our spirit its wings. It’s when we take flight that we realise our greatest strength is our willingness to be vulnerable, and in that moment we’re free to be loved and love in ways where receiving and returning are indistinguishable.
February 2020: I’ll updates these images soon. I’m working to complete this project after many years, a rainbow arising that fills the empty space and arcs between them.
